Visit Sandford Aimee and Greg 2025

The October visit for the Southern Food Garden Group was an inspiring reminder of how much can be achieved in a short time when two experienced gardeners put their hearts and minds (and backs!) to it.  Aimee and Greg moved to their Sandford property a little over two years ago and have transformed it into a beautiful and productive garden that, as one visitor said, "has everything!"

Visit Rose Bay Max and Gaye 2023

A cool, calm spring morning greeted our food garden visitors to Rose Bay this month, where we discovered a gorgeous and highly productive garden tucked away in Max and Gaye’s suburban backyard. In addition to the great garden, lovely company and fabulous food, we were also treated to a crash course in all things crop protection!

Visit Otago Bay Laura and Frank 2022

Visit Otago Bay Laura and Frank 2022

We visited Laura and Frank in 2018, a couple of years after they bought their property. It was high time for a re-visit and on a Sunday morning, with rain threatening, a happy group of gardeners gathered in Otago Bay for an enjoyable morning.

A lot of Laura and Frank's plans for a productive garden have come to pass, some are still a work in progress and some have been abandoned.

In My Garden - Cathy - April 2022

In My Garden - Cathy - April 2022

Like most of us in southern Tasmania, Cathy has had an interesting garden season with a very wet spring and an extremely dry summer. Join her for a tour around her garden to see how things went.

In My Garden - Frank and Laura March 2022

The Food Garden Group first visited our property in September of 2018. Back then our orchard was very new, and our veggie patches were just being established. We’ve now lived here 5 years and we’re rounding the corner on our learning curve as our beds, plants and understanding of the local conditions are settling in for a productive food future.

Visit South Hobart Rosalie 2021

Visit South Hobart Rosalie December 2021

The rain came and went on a cool Saturday in early December when we met at Rosalie and Grant's place in South Hobart. And what an inspiring visit it was. We had visited Rosalie before, in a previous garden of hers in Sandfly. Then, as now, we were all amazed at the energy, creativity and sheer grit and determination Rosalie brings to her gardens.

Visit Liz September 2020

 Visit - Liz -September 2020

The night before the first Food Garden visit in the Covid19 era, the wind howled and the rain drummed on roofs all over Hobart. But true to form, the morning of the visit dawned sunny and bright and many of us made our way to West Hobart where Liz has a charming market garden.

In My Garden - Cathy July 2020

In My Garden - Cathy - July 2020

Mid-winter can be a busy time in the garden, even though everything seems to have slowed right down. There is pruning to be taken care of, the planting of bare-rooted fruit trees, preparing and changing over of beds, re-potting and for those of us lucky enough to have a glass house, there might even still be some fruit to harvest! Cathy and Ward’s garden in North Hobart has all those things going on, and then some! Cathy takes us on a ramble through her winter garden.

In My Garden - Frank and Laura June 2020

In My Garden - Frank and Laura June 2020

Frank and Laura have been living on their 2 ½ acre property in Otago for just over 3 years and Frank has spent many hours working to make their garden beautiful and productive. A lot has changed since The Group visited them in October of 2018. Frank takes us on a walk around his garden to show us what’s happening there now.

Ross and Elizabeth have an amazingly productive garden in Lindisfarne, that has delighted us on a Food Garden Visit a few years ago. Here Ross takes us for an inspiring look at some of  their plants and projects currently on the go.
