Visit Margaret 21 August 2016

On Sunday 21 August we visited Margaret's garden at New Town.
On a day of heavy rain that easily could have meant the first ever cancellation of a food garden visit ten of us decided not to let this happen. Margaret showed us her garden from the safety of her warm living area. We talked about water tanks, irrigation, bean varieties, Tamarillos and a myriad of other subjects. We tasted Pepinos, sampled some of Margaret’s beetroot bread and had her tasty pumpkin soup for lunch.

Margaret even braved the rain to go outside, and while we were watching, she dug up a ginger-root she had planted half a year ago and that at the end of the season had gone dormant. It had doubled in size, proving that you can grow ginger in Tasmania if you choose a warm north-facing spot.

Everyone came away pleased that even in atrocious weather we can have really successful food-garden get-togethers.

Many thanks Margaret for showing us your great new home, your hospitality, your insights and your lovely food. 'Good on you' to those who braved the weather and came.
